To keep yer ship safe from treacherous malware and you in a good pirate mood, we’ve made a special change to our avast! antivirus software. Beginning on September 15, you can switch to the new “Pirate English” for your antivirus protection (or 34 other language options). Just visit microsite or go to facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/avast for more information.
Talk Like a Pirate Day originated with two guys, John Baur and Mark Summers, and shot to infamy with some help from Miami Herald columnist Dave Barry. As they describe it, “Talking like a pirate is fun. It adds a zest, a swagger, to your everyday conversation. Do you need another reason?”
That’s reason enough for us at AVAST Software. Besides, AVAST Software is no newcomer to saying avast. We started over 20 years ago as an acronym for “Anti-Virus - Advanced Set”. It was only a few years later when we realized it was an old pirate term. Since we’re the only IT firm which has had its brand name shouted out for centuries, it’s a great reason for us to join in this celebration.
While speaking like a pirate should be fun, we take security seriously. Over 130 million avast! users on the internet high seas, sailing everywhere between the Pitcairn Islands to Norway’s Svalbard archipelago, depend on us to keep them safe from malware.
Because when we says avast, we means AVAST.
